IATSE Local 891 members celebrated the 50th Anniversary at a party on Saturday, September 22, at the Waldorf Hotel. It was a fun-filled evening of dancing, reconnecting with friends and colleagues, great food and great company!
Thank you to all the members who attended and helped make the party such a success.

50th Anniversary Logo Contest.
Congratulations to Production Department member David Fischer for his winning logo design. David, a long-time member of the Union, has designed a host of film, television and stage productions and been nominated for several awards. David thought carefully about what the logo should communicate: “The 50th anniversary of the Local gave me an opportunity to reflect upon the history of film and television production in British Columbia, and I thought it was, perhaps, finally time for our Local 891 to receive it’s own “closeup.” I’ve used two of the aspect ratios common in the industry over the years (1.85:1 and 4:3) to provide a framing device for this concept,” explains David. IATSE Local 891 would like to thank all the members who look the time to enter the contest.
IATSE Local 891 values the families of our members and recognizes the contributions that they make to our success. We recognized our families at a wonderful family event (exclusively for IATSE 891 members and their guests) including four hours of rides, games and food held on the evening of June 23, 2012.
This luncheon for 891's Charter- and Gold-Card members, past and present members of the Executive Board, Elected Officials, Motion Picture Benefits Trust and Building Trust, kicked off our 2012 celebrations.
A commemorative anniversary pin (based on the winning logo design) which all members will receive during 2012.

This publication will be a handsome observance of IATSE 891's achievements, milestones, and growth over the past 50 years. As well as the Union's history, information will be included on our Charter members, those who have served the local through election or appointment, and others who have made a difference in our organization and industry. The publication will be made available for viewing on this website and in book format for those members who pre-order.

As an industry that is all about visuals, an anniversary wouldn't be the same without a pictorial celebration. Our photo montage illustrates the Unions' milestones and people. As well as being screened at our Recognition Luncheon and 50th Anniversary Celebration party, it will be a valuable addition to the Union's historical archive.
International General Executive Board Meeting
In honour of the Local’s 50th Anniversary, the International held the International General Executive Board meetings in Vancouver during the summer of 2012.
